PROJECT NARRATIVE
A Home Framed by Horizon and Held by Craft
Perched above the Puget Sound, this custom residence is shaped by its extraordinary setting—180 degrees of uninterrupted water and sky. The architecture responds with quiet confidence, opening itself to the view while maintaining a sense of intimacy and refuge.
From the earliest conversations, the design was guided by a shared desire to create a home that feels both expansive and grounded. Every interior space is oriented toward the Sound, not simply to capture the view, but to cultivate a deeper connection to nature and place. Privacy from neighboring residences is preserved through careful massing and subtle shifts in geometry, allowing the home to feel open without being exposed.
The western façade—where land meets light—was re-engineered to dissolve the boundary between inside and out. Structural innovations allowed for expansive glazing, framing the horizon with minimal interruption. Yet the view is not revealed all at once. Instead, the architecture unfolds gradually, choreographing a sequence of smaller moments—glimpses through corridors, reflections in glass, the play of light on wood—before culminating in the full panorama.
Inside, the material palette is soft and restrained. Warm wood tones, finely crafted, bring a sense of calm and tactility that contrasts with the ruggedness of the surrounding landscape. This juxtaposition—refined interior against elemental exterior—creates a dynamic tension that is both serene and alive.
The home is not a spectacle, but a vessel. It holds light, frames view, and supports life with quiet precision. In collaboration with the clients, we shaped a space that is deeply personal yet deeply connected to its site—an architecture of clarity, intention, and enduring presence.
